Our donations to OSS during 2024
Why and how we donated $5,189 across 17 projects and maintainers during 2024
2023 ended with our annual tradition of donating to open source. This time, we donated $5,189 across 17 projects and maintainers.
At Doist we cannot imagine a world without open-source software and its communities. For us, this means a world where people from different countries and cultures come together to collaborate on challenging projects out of curiosity, passion, and the desire to make things better. Just like we do with our products.
The 2023 round of donations came at a critical moment in world history. The macroeconomic situation was dire, and we saw waves of layoffs across the tech industry and companies cutting budgets, leaving maintainers and projects with uncertainty or no funding at all. This has motivated us to change our donation strategy from one-time payments to a recurring monthly donation, allowing creators and maintainers to rely on a steady and predictable stream of income instead of a single big payment towards the end of the year.
We’re committed to continuing to support open-source projects to ensure their longevity and health. This sustained support of the technologies that form the backbone of the products we ship to users is not only about financial aid; it’s also about being part of a vibrant, lively community and giving back to the people who make it all possible.
Here’s the breakdown of our donations:
- $1,032 or $86/month to Gwendal Roué (GRDB.swift)
- $336 or $28/month to Detekt

A heartfelt thank you to all creators and maintainers, without which most of what we build wouldn’t be possible. It’s a tough and sometimes thankless job, yet it sits beneath it all. Keep at it and see you for another round in 2024.
